Philipsburg Man Arrested for Two Convenience Store Robberies

PHILIPSBURG – A 23-year-old Philipsburg man is in the Centre County Prison in lieu of $50,000 straight bail on charges that he robbed two Philipsburg, Centre County, convenience stores last week.

Clayton J. Shaw is alleged to have entered the Uni-Mart on U.S. Route 322 east of Philipsburg on Monday and the Minit Mart on North Front Street in Philipsburg on Tuesday. Both times Shaw reportedly wore a white shirt over his face and head.

At the Uni-Mart, state police at Philipsburg report that the clerk recognized Shaw and called out his name. Shaw reportedly fled the store without taking any money. On the following night, he allegedly went to the Minit Mart and brandished a knife. He made off with $160 from the store.

On Wednesday, Shaw was arrested for charges including robbery and simple assault.

He was arraigned and placed in Centre County Prison. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 19.
