PennDOT Announces Nearly $4 Million Investments in 27 Airports

HARRISBURG – PennDOT Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E. announced nearly $4 million in funding to improve safety and upgrade facilities at 27 airports throughout Pennsylvania.

The DuBois Regional Airport in Jefferson County will receive $45,000 to acquire a tractor with various attachments for maintenance of the airport grounds.

“Safe, well-maintained airports are essential to the success of Pennsylvania’s thriving aviation industry,” Biehler said. “Our airports generate billions of dollars in economic activity and provide jobs for thousands of Pennsylvanians.”

Biehler said the funds will be used for a variety of projects, including runway and taxiway rehabilitation, airport development planning, acquisition of snow removal equipment and maintenance.

The grants are administered by PennDOT’s Bureau of Aviation and are completely funded by revenue from Pennsylvania’s jet fuel tax. The state grants leverage more than $1.4 million in local matching funds.
