DuBois Airport Authority OKs Phase II Bid

FALLS CREEK – Phase II of improvements at the DuBois Regional Airport will begin soon.

Improvements in Phase II include an access road and a parking lot.

The Clearfield-Jefferson Counties Regional Airport Authority gave approval for the low bid from Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion. The total for the construction and three alternates in the project is $1,087,587.

Ed Nasuti of Lee-Simpson Associates, engineers on the project, said bidding was “extremely competitive,” with $11,000 separating the low and high bids.

Work on Phase II will begin as soon as letters are submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration and the state Department of Transportation, Bureau of Aviation.

“There’s a possibility that some work could start this fall,” Nasuti told the authority.

The project is being paid through 95 percent FAA funds, 2.5 percent PennDOT funds and 2.5 percent authority funds.

The construction is part of a greater plan to increase the ease of access at the airport.

Last month saw the opening of an exit (exit 90) off of Interstate 80 that allows travelers to go about five miles off of the highway to get to the airport.
