Man Accused of Burglary and Thefts Sentenced

CLEARFIELD – A 23-year-old man who pleaded guilty to burglary and theft charges was sentenced to state prison on Tuesday.

Christopher Hawkins was sentenced to 8 months to three years at a state correctional institution on a charge burglary. He must submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250, is to refrain from the use or possession of alcohol and is prohibited from entering establishments that serve alcohol. He also received a total of three years of consecutive probation. Hawkins was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,100 to one of the victims and over $1,700 to Erie Insurance.

Hawkins pleaded guilty to breaking into a garage owned by one of the victims and stealing a number of fishing items. One of the victims in that crime addressed the court.

“It’s hard to replace 50 years worth of fishing material,” said the woman. “A lot of it was of sentimental value.”

The woman also stated that many of the items were heirlooms and were to be passed down to her son and grandson.
