GRAHAM TOWNSHIP – A passenger in a vehicle involved in an accident on Interstate 80 on Sunday afternoon was pronounced dead at the scene according to Clearfield-based state police.
The vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Shawn Browne of Erie, was traveling east on I-80, as was a truck driven by Robert Murphy of Mason City, Iowa. Browne reportedly did not see Murphy’s vehicle slow due to traffic ahead of them, and struck the rear of Murphy’s truck. Browne’s vehicle overturned onto its roof and came to rest facing west in the east lane of I-80.
Nicholas Caccavo, 19 of Erie, was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Michael Polachek. Browne suffered serious injuries and was transported to Altoona Regional for treatment. Murphy did not report any injuries.
Police were assisted by the Morris Township Fire Company. The investigation into the incident continues.
