Rep. George Named Member of Chesapeake Bay Advisory Panel

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said he has accepted an invitation to be a member of the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Chesapeake Bay Advisory Committee.

“More than half of the state lies within the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and the panel guides the DEP as it strives to meet pollution and prevention directives,” said George, majority chairman of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. “It also advises the State Conservation Commission on agricultural matters affecting the bay.”

George’s three-year appointment, sought by DEP Secretary Kathleen M. McGinty, follows his service last year on the Chesapeake Bay Tributary Strategy Steering Committee. Two weeks ago, George was appointed to the Energy & Environment Committee of the Council of State Governments’ Eastern Regional Conference.

The Susquehanna River drains 92 percent of the bay watershed within Pennsylvania and supplies half of the freshwater entering the bay, which is the nation’s largest and most productive estuary.
