Boggs Supervisors Update Public on Landfill, Other Issues

WEST DECATUR – Boggs Township monthly meeting came to a swift end Monday night. With all the supervisors present, the agenda was quickly run through with a few hold-ups.

The supervisors announced that PA Waste LLC has received an extension of 90 days to respond to “technical deficiencies” pertaining to the Camp Hope Landfill as stated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

PA Waste has filed an application with the DEP to build a landfill in the township.

The DEP also approved plans for planning exemption to convert 29 acres into 50 residential lots with some more set aside for two stormwater management parcels for Chestnut Ridge Estates and additional approval for Act 537 Plan. The latter estimated to cost almost $42,000 with the DEP warning that any unauthorized changes to the scope or cost could harm future potential grant approvals.

With the extension of the waterline down Arc Road the supervisors motioned to follow through with a request of PA America to approval the installation of a fire hydrant. PA America had requested that any fire hydrants that were planned to be installed be included prior to the bidding process to save work and time.

“To benefit the development there, engineers have approved one hydrant,” said Boggs Township Supervisor Chairman Bill Dickson as supporting reasoning toward the vote.

A motion to apply for a Department of Community and Economic Development grant to obtain funding for road signs requested for by township citizens passed with no votes against.
