CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department reported a scam involving fake Wal-Mart moneygrams.
According to police an area resident received three Wal-Mart moneygrams in the mail from an internet address for payment of an item he was trying to sell. The resident did not ship the item but did have Wal-Mart check out the moneygrams. He was told they were fake.
Police remind residents that if they receive something like that in the mail to have it authenticated prior to cashing them. Police state that the person attempting to cash the fake item could be responsible for the money received from the institution that cashed the moneygram.
