Case Continued for Argument Started Over Cigarette

DUBOIS – An argument that began over a cigarette ended with a DuBois man being charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, and now the preliminary hearing on the case has been continued until Aug. 17.

Joshua L. Coffey, 20, is alleged to have entered his neighbor’s apartment on West Long Avenue and asked for a cigarette on June 29 at about 12:31 a.m. The neighbor’s friend was also there, and Coffey asked the man for a cigarette.

The friend replied, “No.” Witnesses told DuBois City Police that Coffey became extremely angry and got into an argument with his neighbor’s friend.

Court documents state that Coffey began to punch the man in the face with a closed fist and then kicked him in the face and back multiple times.

Coffey remains free until the rescheduled hearing.
