It’s fair week. The News Team and Friends have been to the Clearfield County Fair throughout the week to bring you up-to-date coverage on the events and happenings that matter to you, whether it was Tuesday night’s show or the change in the car stand.

We also brought you news this week regarding a Ginter man accues of attempted murder, of a robbery at a bar in DuBois and about a man found guilty of robbery.

This week also saw a strange story spin off from a WWI artillery shell, fair organizations receiving funding and a man who died in a tractor accident.

Armed Robbery Reported at DuBois Bar

DUBOIS – DuBois City Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened early Monday morning at a bar.

Police report that they arrived on scene at Julio’s Tavern on South Jared Street at about 1:34 a.m. Monday.

Ginter Man has Attempted Murder Charge Held to Court

CLEARFIELD – A Ginter man accused of attempted murder had a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

The alleged victim in the case testified that he and friend made an arrangement with 66-year-old Robert Greenaway, the defendant in the case, to salvage scrap from his property. The alleged victim said that the agreement was made on July 13 or 14, and that their initial contact with Greenaway started rocky at first.

World War I Artillery Round Causes Bomb Scare in DuBois

DUBOIS – An inactive World War I artillery shell was the cause for a bomb scare in DuBois on Wednesday.

The DuBois City Police Department was called to a West Sherman Avenue residence for a reported bomb inside the home. Officers arrived and found a WWI artillery round that had been at the residence for several years. According to police the homeowner became concerned that it may be a live round.

Millersburg Man Killed in Tractor Accident

JORDAN TOWNSHIP – Clearfield-based state police report that a 65-year-old Millersburg man died as a result of a farm tractor accident.

David Esch was operating his tractor on Tuesday afternoon, traveling from one part of his property to another. For reasons unknown at this time, the tractor traveled onto a shoulder and the front of the tractor struck a small tree. The tractor then overturned over the embankment and came to rest upside down on top of Esch. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner Joel Heath.

Clearfield Man Found Guilty of Robbery in Front of Clearfield Post Office

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man was found guilty Monday afternoon of robbing another Clearfield man in front of the post office in Clearfield Borough on Nov. 27.

Ryan Rittmeyer was found guilty of two counts of robbery, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. He was found not guilty of criminal solicitation to commit robbery.

Two Clearfield Organizations Receive Funding at the Fair

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Fair and Park Board and the Old Town Sportsmen’s Association received grant monies from State Rep. Camille “Bud” George Tuesday night at the Clearfield County Fair.

George first presented the Fair and Park Board with a check for $20,000. These monies are to be utilized for building a new David H. Litz grove Stage.

Curwensville Man Waives Right to Hearing on Aggravated Indecent Assault Charge

CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man waived his right to a preliminary hearing on an aggravated indecent assault charge.

David Allen Swatsworth is accused of aggravated indecent assault of a child, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, three counts of indecent assault and criminal attempt to commit the aggravated indecent assault of a child.

Football Manager Gives Behind-the-Scenes Look at Penn State Football

UNIVERSITY PARK – During Penn State’s football matchup last year with then-No. 1-ranked Ohio State, fans saw Tony Hunt break out into the open with a huge rip in the seat of his pants, an illness sent Joe Paterno rushing off the sidelines and a multitude of other malfunctions took place before the camera’s eye. But what the camera sees is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the story on the sidelines of a football game as seen through the eyes of Penn State’s equipment manager. This year J. Brad “Spider” Caldwell will celebrate 25 years in that role at the University.

Born with a severe case of scoliosis that left him without part of his left shoulder blade and a number of ribs, he acquired his nickname when former Penn State defensive lineman Joe Hines noticed a hunched-over Caldwell before a team meeting.

Maines Crowned 2007 Clearfield County Fair Queen

CLEARFIELD – The first day of the 147th annual Clearfield County Fair brought with it high temperatures, big crowds and the naming of the 2007 Clearfield County Fair Queen.

Danielle Maines, a 19-year-old Clearfield woman, earned the honor of representing the Clearfield County Fair.

Maines was the second runner-up in the 2006 competition.
