Scattered Thunderstorms Cause Power Outages in the Area

CLEARFIELD – Thursday afternoon’s pop-up thunderstorms left almost 1,000 Penelec customers in the dark while crews scrambled to make repairs.

According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, the lightning and high winds were severe in some areas while other areas never saw a drop of rain. The storms began around 4:30 p.m.. There were 35 trouble locations reported. The hardest hit areas included Karthaus, Ramey, Penfield, LaJose, New Millport, Janesville Osceola Mills and DuBois. The majority of the outages were caused by lightning although crews did replace a number of cross-arms and repaired several areas where wire was down. All customers were restored by 3:00 a.m. Friday.

Penelec thanks customers for their patience and understanding during restoration efforts and reminds you to treat all downed wires as energized and dangerous. Do not approach or try to move downed wires. Please call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-478-8465) to report downed wires and power outages
