Free Exercise Class Offered for Girls

CLEARFIELD – With child obesity and worry about body image for many, figuring out how to balance eating and working out correctly can be confusing.

Patty Moyer of Clearfield is stepping in to help area girls, free of charge.

She has organized a six-class free exercise series for middle school-aged girls at her studio at 115 Mount Joy Road.

Classes will be held Aug. 6, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 15 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.

Moyer said she decided to facilitate the classes to do promote healthy self-acceptance and a way for girls to make new friends.

Moyer, an educator with the Clearfield Area School District for many years, said, “There will be no pressure for weight loss, but a nutritionist will be speaking to the girls about healthy eating habits.”

The classes will also show different types of aerobic exercise from dancing to using hula-hoops to jump ropes. Girls will also learn about core muscle strength through the use of resistance tubes and weights.

Moyer stressed that everything for the class will be provided at no cost. Interested girls will need to wear comfortable clothes and a good pair of sneakers.
