Sweet Performance by Sugarland at the Clearfield County Fair

CLEARFIELD – Sugarland, the Atlanta-based overnight country sensation entertained the near-capacity crowd at the Clearfield County Fair grandstand Wednesday night.

The band pleased the crowd with songs from their first album, “Twice the Speed of Light,” as well as their sophmore album, “Enjoy the Ride.”

A few songs into the show lead vocalist Jennifer Nettles jokingly said the show felt like church. Inviting the crowd to the front, Nettles said, “Maybe we should sing four stanzas of ‘Just As I Am’ and see how many people come forward.”

The fans responded by joining Sugarland at the stage and sang along to favorites such as “Down in Mississippi,” “Mean Girls,” “Settlin,'” “Just Might (Make Me Believe)” and “Baby Girl.”

During an encore of the crowd favoirte “Something More,” the band signed autographs for eager fans.

On their Web site, Kristian Bush, one-half of the popular duo, says he used to find people who sang the words to their song and give them a guitar pick. Wednesday was no different with several fans enjoying the honor.

Smiling with picks in hand were Clearfield County Fair Queen Danielle Maines and her court. When asked about their favorite part of the evening, the girls chimed in agreement that they loved being on stage the most.

Maines and her court were divided when it came to choosing their favorite performer. Second Runner-Up Melinda Korb said of the duo, “Jennifer(Nettles) is my favorite but Kristian is fun too, and quirky.”

Lydia Gearhart, third runner-up summed things up nicely when she said, “I think it’s great that this happened at the Clearfield County Fair.”

The Clearfield County Fair continues through Saturday, while the Full Pull Truck and Tractor Pull is the Thursday night grandstand attraction.
