Clearfield Man has Hearing on Burglary Charge

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of breaking into a home and stealing numerous car stereos had a hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland on Wednesday.

A DuBois woman testified that she let Brandon Scott Jury and another individual use her car while she was at work. She stated that when they would pick her up there would be copper pipe and wire tubing in her trunk. She stated that on one occasion she went with Jury and the other man to a house on Flegal Road. While there she said that the two men entered the residence and removed copper and tools. She stated that she helped them carry the copper to her car.

No charges have been filed against the woman as of yet.

Officer Michael Spencer of the Lawrence Township Police Department testified that the department had received numerous complaints of thefts and burglaries involving copper and car stereo equipment. He stated that after speaking with an informant a search warrant was obtained for Jury’s apartment at the Voyager. When they executed the warrant they found a person asleep in the apartment. That person was Scott Moore. Moore was implicated by the first witness in the crimes as well. According to Spencer Moore was taken to Clearfield County Jail on a warrant from the sheriff’s office. It is unknown if he will be charged in regard to the Jury incidents.

Spencer went on to state that officers discovered numerous items within the apartment, including numerous car stereos and electronics, hacksaws, hand tools, pieces of copper pipe, two car radiators under a bed, a protractor and a jewelry box and three water meters.

Spencer said that the protractor had the name of one of the people who had reported a burglary, which also included the jewelry box and one of the water meters.

The officer said that after the lengthy process of logging evidence was completed, people who filed complaints about missing property were contacted. Three were identified.

“We still have numerous items that aren’t even spoken four,” said Spencer.

Also discovered at the scene were spoons, syringes and books on how to make crystal methamphetamine and other drugs. Jury was arrested in July on the 800 block of Daisy Street.

At the end of the hearing the commonwealth argued to amend the criminal complaint and add additional charges of burglary, possessing instruments of crime and criminal trespass. Ireland refused. He also dismissed an initial charge of burglary while holding three counts of theft by unlawful taking, three counts of receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and use or possession of drug paraphernalia to court.

He remains in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
