CLEARFIELD – A new attraction at the 2007 edition of the Clearfield County Fair gives kids a chance to take part in the action and hopefully learn something in the process.
The Fire Fighting Training Show is just one of the many attractions at this year’s fair that are included with the gate admission fee.
During the show, children from the audience are selected to become firefighters and perhaps even learn something in the process.
“Chief Neal,” who runs the show, said the show idea came to him after spending 14 years touring with Alligator Adventures.
Neal was looking for a way to continue in the show circuit, but he no longer wanted to do a show with live animals. His brother, a 20-plus-year firefighter, suggested the firefighter show because of children’s fascination with the equipment.
What Neal created was a demonstration show with kid-sized stuff but big-sized fun.
Although Neal tells those watching the show to be sure they “Don’t Hide, Go Outside” in the event of a fire, he encourages parents to contact their local fire department to teach their children what to do in the event of an emergency.
He said this step will be sure that any catch phrase or safety wording remains the same.
Neal will do three shows through the close of the fair at 3:30 p.m. 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day. An extra show will be presented Tuesday for Children’s Day.
