Summer Youth Reading Program Ends with Prizes Galore Events

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library would like to announce the unveiling of the “Get a Clue @ Your Library” summer programming prizes and the Clearfield County Fair Week Scavenger Hunt. The “Prizes Galore” events begin on Monday at 10 a.m.

During this event area youth that are registered summer reading participants at the Shaw Public Library can come in beginning Monday to collect their reading tickets that were earned throughout the summer program to take part in the prize Chinese auction. This portion of the event continues through August 11th during regular business hours and until 6:00 p.m. on August 13th. As an extra incentive to the youth, the library would like to encourage summer readers to check out a book during Fair Week to earn 5 extra prize drawing tickets. All prizes will be drawn following the “Summers Up” event on August 13th.

“You don’t need to be present to win the summer reading prizes,” stated Paula Marshall, director, “However, we hope that families and youth will come and participate in the event on August 13th.” More information on the “Summers Up” event will be released at a later time.

The library is very appreciative of the community support for the summer reading program and would like to thank the following prize sponsors for their assistance in helping to make the “Get a Clue @ Your Library” program so successful: County National Bank, JcPenney Styling Salon, Clearfield Bank & Trust, Finn Chiropractic, TD Fabricating & Welding, Lakemont Park, DelGrosso’s, Altoona Curve, State College Spikes, Country Aire Golf, Kassie Eckley, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Hedges, Mary’s Place, and Clearfield Hospital.

The second event of “Prizes Galore” offers area youth the opportunity to win 5 passes to Lakemont Park in Altoona. Registered summer reading participants simply stop by the Shaw Public Library during Fair Week to pick up the “Clearfield County Fair Scavenger Hunt” prepared by the library. Those that complete the scavenger hunt and return it to the library anytime during the Fair Week or by 8 p.m. on Monday, August 6th will be entered into the Lakemont Prize drawing.
“All area youth are encouraged to participate in the scavenger hunt,” shared Cara Artiola, youth services, “For those youth not planning on attending the fair will have the opportunity to do a modified version the scavenger hunt.” The drawing for the Lakemont passes will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at noon.
