Driver in Mahaffey Deaths Has Criminal Record

EBENSBURG – A Patton woman who is reported to have killed a Mahaffey grandmother and granddaughter when her car veered off the road Wednesday previously pled guilty to a felony drug charge.

Bobbi Jo Morgan, 22, entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of possession with the intent to deliver drugs for a 2005 incident in Cambria County Court.

Morgan was sentenced in January 2006 to serve six months to two years less one day in the county jail, however, court records show the sentence was modified to four months of in-home detention with three of those on electronic monitoring.

Morgan was originally charged with other counts including endangering the welfare of children in the Cambria County case, however she was not sentenced on those charges.

Authorities have not said whether Morgan will face charges in the Mahaffey incident when her car traveled off of state Route 36 in Mahaffey, hitting and killing 63-year-old Bertha Kitchen and her 3-year-old granddaughter, Samantha.
