Lightning Sparks Trailer Fire

PUNXSUTAWNEY – An investigation into a Tuesday night trailer fire in Young Township, Jefferson County, revealed that a lightning strike caused an electrical malfunction.

Cpl. Thomas E. Josephson, a state police fire marshal, assisted the Elk Run Fire Co. fire chiefs in investigating the fire that happened along Crawfordtown Road between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The report said the mobile home, owned by Dalene Beckman of Punxsutawney and occupied by Jessica Pearce of Punxsutawney, was hit by lightning that then caused the electrical problem.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The 12-foot-by-60-foot mobile home and its contents were a total loss. Damage is estimated at $21,000.
