Clearfield County Commissioners Recognize Fallen Firefighters and Volunteer Firefighters

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners proclaimed July 27 a day to pay tribute to fallen firefighters from Clearfield County and to recognize the efforts of volunteer firefighters from across the county.

The proclamation comes weeks before the DuBois and Sandy Township Volunteer Fire Departments hold a memorial dedication for fallen firefighters on July 27 at at 7 p.m. at the Edward B. Cherry Amphitheatre in the DuBois City Memorial Park.

According to the proclamation DuBois Volunteer Fire Department is the 16th largest volunteer fire department in the country and has been recognized by the Insurance Services Office as the number one fire department in the United States. That rating makes them one of two volunteer fire departments in the country to receive that rating. DuBois Volunteer Fire Department is also one of 30 across the nation, volunteer or compensated, to achieve number one status and the only fire department in Pennsylvania to achieve the number one rating.

Combined, both DuBois and Sandy Township Fire Departments combined in the top three in volunteers in the entire area.
