This last week started off with many state agencies being temporarily closed due to a budget impasse. GantDaily provided coverage on that subject, from start to finish.

A construction worker died on the job this week along Interstate 80, a local man pleaded guilty to incest, and a convicted drug trafficker had concerns heard before a judge.

Clearfield Borough Hears Tech Park is Possible Ethanol Plant Location

CLEARFIELD – An update was given to Clearfield Borough Council Thursday night concerning the plans for BioEnergy International LLC of Norwell, Mass., to locate within the county.

Discussion about the proposed BioEnergy plant at the meeting focused on the topics of the Clearfield Technology Park being a probable location, the “cleanliness” of the plant and jobs that would be brought to the community.

Man Accused of Drunk Driving Death has Bench Trial, Decision Pending

CLEARFIELD – A West Decatur man accused of the Dec. 22, 2005 death of Linda Whited as the result of a drunk driving accident had a bench trial on Friday.

James John Tingle, 51, is charged with homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving at safe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.

Investigators Find What they Believe to be Remains of an Infant in Aftermath of Sykesville Fire

SYKESVILLE – State police in DuBois have found what they believe to the remains fo an infant child during an investigation into a fire that occurred on July 12 at 4 a.m. at 90 Dr. Fugate Drive in Sykesville.

According to the report, police found the body inside the destroyed residence. An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the identity of the child and the manner of death.

Delisle Hearing Continued

CLEARFIELD – The hearing for a man accused of going on a rampage at a local race track had his preliminary hearing continued for one week at the request of his attorney, John Sughrue.

Richard A. Delisle is charged with five counts of criminal attempt to commit criminal homicde, 14 counts of aggravated assault, 18 counts of simple assault, 29 counts of recklessly endangering another person and related charges.

Kylertown Boy Killed After Being Hit by Car

COOPER TOWNSHIP – A 13-year-old Kylertown boy was rushed to Clearfield Hospital after he was hit by a car along Rolling Stone Road in Cooper Township Tuesday night.

State police at Clearfield report that the boy, whose name is not being released due to his age, was walking south on Rolling Stone Road at about 10 p.m. when 40-year-old Tracy Butler of Karthaus failed to see him.

Deal Reached to End PA Budget Impasse

HARRISBURG – Legislators and the governor brokered a deal that ended the state budget impasse Monday night, and state workers will return to the job after nearly 24,000 people were sent home without pay.

Scores of state parks, state-run museums and driver-license offices around the state were shuttered Monday on orders of Gov. Ed Rendell after a partisan deadlock held up the budget nine days into the new fiscal year.

CLEARFIELD – Outdoor enthusiasts planning to take in some of Clearfield County’s natural beauty are having plans put on hold as part of the ongoing state budget stalemate.

Those who hold jobs dubbed as “non-critical” have been told not to report to work until notified otherwise, meaning that two of Clearfield County’s favorite camping and outdoor recreation spots are closed until further notice.

Clearfield Man Pleads Guilty to Incest Charge

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man who pleaded guilty to a charge of incest was sentenced to six months in Clearfield County Jail on Tuesday.

George Paul Queen, 40, was also fined $1,000, placed on three years probation, is prohibited from consuming alcohol, must complete the Project Point of Light Program, submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250 and is to have no contact with the victim. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault, was fined $500 and placed on two years of additional probation.

Motions Heard on Man Sentenced for Trafficking Cocaine

CLEARFIELD – The Honorable Judge Paul E. Cherry heard a post sentence motion on behalf of Arnulfo Uresit Tuesday afternoon.

Uresti was found guilty on April 11 of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In May Uresti and a co-defendant, Hugo Francisco Leal-Flores were sentenced to five-to-ten years in state prison.

Steve Jarrett, Uresti’s attorney, pointed out a number of items he found to be contentious that took place throughout the trial. Many of the items had been brought up before the trial and during the trial as well, with the judge ruling on them when they came up. Jarrett brought up testimony from the investigating officer, which he claimed changed from hearing to hearing, to potential profiling.

DuBois Woman Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Delivery

DUBOIS – A DuBois woman was sentenced to four months in Clearfield County Jail after pleading guilty to delivering cocaine to a confidential informant.

Jessica Lee Caldarelli, 23, pleaded guilty to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance. She was also sentenced to six years of probation, fined $1,000, is prohibited from consuming alcohol or prohibited from entering any establishment that serves alcohol, was ordered to complete drug and alcohol counseling, and is to submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.

Construction Worker Killed on I-80 Off-Ramp

WOODLAND – A 62-year-old Westover man was killed Wednesday when a tri-axle truck backed over him on an Interstate 80 off-ramp.

James E. Clark was apparently working to take measurements at the exit 123 off-ramp near Woodland in Bradford Township, according to police, when tri-axle dump trucks were backing up the off-ramp.
