CLEARFIELD – State College National broke up a pitcher\’s duel with 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 10-0 win over Clearfield in a Little League District 5 10-and-11 Tournament semifinal at McNamee Field Thursday evening.
Mark Milutinovic recorded a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts in the State College team\’s tourney debut. He walked two.
Clearfield\’s Matt Kushner was equally effective over the first three innings, striking out four while allowing two infield hits and one walk.
However, State College National exploded in the fourth with eight hits against Kushner and Mike Beck. The big one was Alex Stover\’s liner into the center field bleachers for a three-run homer. Nick Venturino also had three ribbies with a pair of singles, the second ending the game because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Milutinovic contributed two singles to the rally.
Christian Lezzer had the lone Clearfield safety on a pop-up that fell behind the mound in the top of the fourth. Kelton Rishel followed with a wicked one-hopper that State College National shortstop Mike Kauffman turned into a double play.
Clearfield (1-1) will travel to Lewistown Saturday to meet Mifflin County in an elimination bracket quarterfinal. The winner will play at Big Valley or Tri-County on Monday.
State College National will play State College American in the winner\’s bracket final on Monday. SC American blanked Tri-County 14-0 Thursday evening.
