RIDGWAY—-The Curwensville Lady Tide softball team kept right up with the Golden Tide baseball team as they too won a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. Curwensville’s ladies knocked off Ridgway without any trouble, 12-1 and 18-2, to run their record to 16-2 on the year. The Lady Tide now await the District 9 pairings which come out this afternoon.
Holly Lansberry threw a three hitter in the first game as she ran her record to 14-2. The sophomore struck out 13 Ridgway hitters. Curwensville had 14 total hits, with Ashley Demchak, Kristi Newpher and Samantha Haney all having three. Newpher had 2 doubles while Lansberry, Demchak, Haney and Tess Bloom had one each. Shortstop Dani Struble boomed a triple for one of the Tide’s hits. Newpher, Struble and freshman Tess Bloom each had two RBI’s on the day.
The game was tight until the Lady Tide put seven runs on the scoreboard in the top half of the third inning. Curwensville was also helped by three base on balls, two hit batters and seven Ridgway errors in scoring their 12 runs.
Curwensville was actually the home team in the second game and kept the offense going in having the mercy rule applied after 4 innings when the Tide made it 18-2. Erin Bressler went the distance for the Lady Tide in notching the win. Ronna Knepp had two hits, both doubles, to fire the offense while teammate Struble also had two hits. Curwensville had a total of seven extra base hits as Demchak and Stacey Johnson also had doubles, Struble a triple, and Newpher a monster home run. Newpher’s homer was to dead center, clearing the fence by plenty. It came in the third inning with two Lady Tide on base. The Tide were issued ten walks, had four hit batters and stole a total of ten bases in the nightcap that certainly helped them to the romp. Struble had four of the steals for the Lady Tide.
The Lady Tide have a long trip Wednesday for their next foe as they travel to Sheffield for a 4:15 game. Curwensville beat Sheffield 13-0 on April 10th. They have now won seven straight.
NOTE: Curwensville senior catcher Dana Johnson now has a total of ninety-nine base hits for her career. Head coach Allen Leigey is hoping Johnson picks up number 100 Wednesday.
