SHEFFIELD – A long bus trip resulted in a short stay on the Sheffield High School softball field for the Clearfield Lady Bisons Monday as they belted 14 hits, five of them for extra bases, while Mandy Rowles and Brittany Pataky combined on a two-hitter for a 12-0 shutout in five innings.
Rowles faced only 10 batters in three innings to claim her sixth win. She struck out six and allowed only a two-out double by losing hurler Danielle Summers in the first frame.
Pataky made her varsity debut in the circle to close out Clearfield\’s ninth win in 17 games. The senior southpaw gave up one hit and one walk.
Nikki Collins paced the Lady Bison offense with a three-run homer and two singles. Julie Colesar cracked a pair of run-scoring triples. Pataky and Megan Butler chipped in with two singles apiece. Pataky and Alyssa Anderson each had two runs batted in.
Coach Bob Dixon\’s Lady Bisons took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Colesar tripled to drive in Pataky and then scored on Anderson\’s sacrifice fly. Sarah Kovalick\’s double and Butler\’s single accounted for the other run.
In the third, Collins ignited an eight-run rally with a single and capped it with her home run. Rowles, Pataky, Anderson and Butler also had hits.
Carrie Harbold singled and Ashley Lias tripled for the final tally in the fifth.
The Lady Bisons ride their first three-game winning streak of the season to DuBois today and will host Johnsonburg Wednesday.
