Clfd BB: Bisons Drop 8-4 Verdict to CPL Co-Leader

MILROY – Indian Valley put Clearfield in a hole early and went on to carve out an 8-4 win in schoolboy baseball action Monday.

The Warriors, tied with State College for first place in the Central Penn League at 9-3, jolted the Bisons with six runs in the second inning for a 7-0 bulge.

Singles by Devon Pearson and Dane Glick and a walk to Kevin Ryan loaded the bases. After Jay Hartman singled in one run, winning pitcher Kyle Heane aided his own cause with a two-run double to left center and Austin Long slammed a two-out, three-run home run to left center to chase loser Brandon Evans.

\”It happened so fast we didn\’t have time to warm anybody up,\” Clearfield coach Sid Lansberry said. \”Then (Andrew) Janocko came in a did a good job.\”

Janocko limited the 11-5 Warriors to three hits and one run over the last 4-1/3 innings, but the damage had been done.

Adam Jury and James Zimmerman were the only Bisons to solved Heane for hits in his six-inning stint.

One of Jury\’s was a solo homer to center in the sixth. His single and Zimmerman\’s double led to a pair of runs in the fourth. Kyle Kline drove in one with a sacrifice fly and Evans the other with a groundout.

Singles by Tanner St. Clair and pinch-hitter Michael Moyer around a walk to pinch-hitter Doug Kephart produced a run off Indian Valley reliever Brian Billett in the seventh.

Hartman led the Warriors with three hits. Pearson and Long had two apiece.

Clearfield, 3-8 in the CPL and 7-10 overall, plays St. Marys in its home finale Wednesday before ending the regular season with league games at Central Mountain Thursday and State College Friday.

In the junior varsity game, the Bisons fell to 10-5 with a 6-4 loss in spite of three hits by Alex Billotte and two each by Chris Barr and Isaac Butler.
