Curwensville Baseball Team – MVL Champions

ALLPORT—-What a sweet year so far for Curwensville baseball head coach Ryan Briskar. In his first year as boss of the Golden Tide his squad is now 11-4 and on Tuesday afternoon they brought home the 2007 Moshannon Valley League title. It was all business as Curwensville crushed the West Branch Warriors 16-5. The loss leaves West Branch at the .500 mark on the year with a 7-7 overall record.

Catcher Cory Bloom had three hits for the Tide, while Trevor Horton and Nate McGary each had two hits. McGary along with Brett McCracken drove in three runs apiece. Coupled with the thirteen hits for the Golden Tide were 4 Warrior errors and 6 walks which had runs coming in bunches. Curwensville didn’t score until the third inning when they put four on the board. Then they just didn’t stop as they tallied five in the fourth, three in the fifth and two each in the sixth and seventh.

The Tide also stole seven bases on the afternoon rout.

West Branch was led by Justin Shive, Lance Kolesar, Frank Norris and Tyler Meersand with two hits each. Shive had the big hit for the Warriors, a 4th inning two run homer. Shive and Norris drove in two runs each out of the five scored by West Branch.

Winning the Moshannon Valley League had coach Briskar saying, “ Well, that certainly is one of the many goals we have here at Curwensville, and it sure is nice to grab that one.” Briskar also said, “We played well again today, hit the ball hard, and ran the bases exceptionally smart.” The first year coach praised third baseman Andrew Straw, “Andrew has played very well at third base for us recently and today may have been his finest effort.”

Curwensville beat West Branch 2-1 in their first game of year and the win yesterday gives them the season sweep of the Warriors. The Tide are back in action on Thursday at St. Mary’s to battle the Flying Dutch at 4:15. Remember, follow Curwensville baseball on line at…….http://curwensville.schoolwires.com
