PHEAA Opens Registration for Big 33 Football Classic Halftime Kicking Contest

HARRISBURG (PRNewswire-USNewswire) – PHEAA announced that registration is open for the Big 33 $33,000 Halftime Kick, to be held on June 16th at the PNC Big 33 Football Classic in Hershey.

Twenty-one contestants will be selected to participate in the halftime activities, but only one of those contestants will have the opportunity to kick a field goal for a $33,000 scholarship. A missed kick will still earn the kicker a $3,300 scholarship.

“We’re a strong supporter of the Big 33 Scholarship Foundation and the students it helps,” said Dick Willey, PHEAA President and CEO. “By sponsoring this halftime kick, we’ve created another way to help a student afford their higher education while still having a little fun at halftime.”

The Big 33 Scholarship Foundation, in partnership with both business and private donors, awards numerous academic and technical scholarships to qualified high school students residing in Pennsylvania and Ohio. PHEAA began partnering with the Big 33 in 2000 through the Partnerships for Access to Higher Education Program and became a sponsor of the Big 33 Football Classic in 2001. PHEAA, along with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation, has helped the Big 33 award over $1 million in academic scholarships since 2004.

To enter the Big 33 $33,000 Halftime Kick Contest, visit PHEAA.org between April 23rd and June 2nd and complete the online registration form. Eleven of the 21 contestants have already been selected at the recent Big 33 Scholarship Luncheons so there are still 10 more opportunities. An additional five alternate contestants will be selected. Registration is open to legal Pennsylvania and Ohio state residents who are currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning or technical school location in those designated states. It is also open to 2007 graduating high school seniors in Pennsylvania or Ohio who plan to continue their education at an institution located within these states.
