The water’s up, muddy and moving fast. Not a good start to opening of trout season this year. There are plenty of more days to reel in that big one, however.

The GantDaily News Team was busy this week with one of the biggest drug trials in Clearfield County History. Both sides fought hard in that trial.

The Clearfield County Commissioners announced that they will meet with a school board over landfill talks. Clearfield Hospital unveiled new equipment to better serve their patients, and the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority heard a flowery proposal.

A fire destroyed three businesses in the DuBois area, Clearfield Borough Council is still working on their fire deparment issues and a Clearfield native was named one of Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business.

Fire Destroys Three Businesses in Sandy Township Area, Fullington Auto Bus Company Releases Statement

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Fire Department released new information on a fire that destroyed three businesses in the Sandy Township area early Wednesday morning.

The three Oklahoma-Salem Road businesses destroyed in the fire included Cozy Acres, Diamond Auto and a Fullington Bus terminal. The report states that the structure fire began around 3 a.m.

Fullington-Weisman Releases Statment on Being Named One of PAs Best 50 Women in Business

PHILADELPHIA – Aerial Fullington-Weisman, President and CEO of Fullington Trailways in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, was selected as one of Pennsylvania’s Best Fifty Women in Business for 2007. Fullington-Weisman was nominated by Schnader attorney Judith F. Olson.

“I am honored to be recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as one of the state’s Best Fifty Women in Business for 2007,” said Fullington-Weisman. “I’m proud of the contributions that Fullington Trailways makes to the people and the Commonwealth, and while this award bears my name, I share it with each person who keeps Fullington Trailways running smoothly and has helped to make our company a success.”

Verdicts in on Interstate 80 Drug Trafficking Case

CLEARFIELD – A jury deliberated for over two hours before reaching their verdicts Wednesday in an almost three day long drug trial.

Jurors found both Hugo Francisco Leal-Flores of Mexico and Arnulfo Uresti of Texas possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Chief Rhone Pledges Support After Death of Former Chief Zimmer

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield community heard news that former Clearfield Borough Police Chief Judd Zimmer died Thursday morning, and the current chief is pledging the department’s assistance for the family.

“The family’s taking it very hard,” Chief Jeff Rhone told the Clearfield Borough Council Thursday night.

Commissioners to Meet with Harmony School District

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners will meet with officials from Harmony Area School District to discuss concerns they have regarding a company proposing to construct a landfill within the district.

Harmony’s board met with company representatives last month, prompting the commissioners to request to speak with district officials.

Fire Department Tops Discussions at Clearfield Boro Work Session

CLEARFIELD – The future of Clearfield Borough’s plans for housing the fire department are still up in the air after a work session Thursday night.

Last month, Deputy Chief Brett Owens told the council that there was a grant program that could provide up to $1 million to renovate an existing structure, namely Station No. 1. The problem: Station No. 1 also houses the police department.

Clearfield Hospital Unveils Upgraded Cardiac Catheterization Lab

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Hospital formally unveiled their upgraded cardiac catheterization lab on Wednesday.

The lab has been in the process of being upgraded for a little over a year now. The cardiac catheterization lab is now equipped with the latest technology, including a state-of-the-art flat panel digital imaging system that allows for visualization of even the smallest coronary vessels.

Sunflowers and Sightseeing: CCRTA Hears Plan

CLEARFIELD – Could Clearfield become known as the sunflower capital of Pennsylvania?

That is the plan a Curwensville man has for the county’s seat.

Samuel Anthony Ettaro made a presentation before the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority Wednesday afternoon, outlining a vision he has to make Clearfield and eventually Clearfield County the sunflower capital of the state.
