Scenic Park Discussed at Lawrence Township Supervisors Meeting

CLEARFIELD – A proposed scenic park near the Sapp Bros. Truck Stop was discussed briefly at the Lawrence Township Supervisors meeting.

Carrie Stewart of Hughes Engineering asked the supervisors for a letter of support toward the project. Questions were raised as to what zoning area the park would fall under. Bill Lawhead said the supervisors would need to see a map of the proposed project to see what zoning area it would lie in before a letter could be written. Lawhead also questioned how close the park would be to the Discovery House Drug Treatment Center.

While a drug treatment center that uses methadone to treat patients cannot move within 500 feet of certain areas, such as a park, without municipality approval, there is no rule that says a park cannot open within 500 feet of a methadone treatment facility.

Information from a past Lawrence Township Supervisors meeting put the chapel at the truck stop at around 1,250 feet away from Discovery House.

Stewart agreed to provide maps to the suprivors to help them in their determination.
