Power Outage Affects Wolf Run Area

CLEARFIELD – A broken cross arm on a utility pole just above the Sapp Bros. truck stop in Clearfield on the Shawville to Clearfield line was the cause of a power outage Monday afternoon that affected the Wolf Run area.

According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, the outage began just after 1:30 p.m.

The downed wire caused the entire circuit between Shawville and Clearfield to be interrupted for approximately five minutes. Penelec dispatchers were able to operate radio-controlled sectionalizing devices to isolate the outage to 82 customers in the Wolf Run area.

Penelec crews were dispatched to the Wolf Run area and identified the exact location of the downed wire. Additional switching was performed at 2:30 p.m. to isolate the problem area to a section of line that serves five customers between the truck stop and Goshen Road. Repairs were then made to the cross arm and the downed wire, which had caused a brush fire in the nearby field.

Penelec reminds customers to treat all downed wires as energized and dangerous. Do not approach or try to move downed wires.
