CURWENSVILLE—-Odds are, if you give up 10 walks your team is likely to be on the short end of the score. Then again if you strand 13 runners you’re likely not able to pull out the victory.
Curwensville did walk 10 Moshannon Valley hitters and the Black Knights did strand 13 base runners. After all that the Tide actually won 10-1 Friday afternoon for their second straight win and also go 2-0 in the Moshannon Valley league.
The Tide only had three hits in their opening game win Thursday over West Branch but yesterday they banged out 12 hits to pull away with the “W”. Leading the attack were Mark Dellantonio, Cory Bloom and Ben McGary with two hits apiece. In fact every starter for coach Ryan Briskar’s Tide all had at least one hit. Jesse Hoover, winning pitcher in relief, had a big triple in the fourth inning as the Tide scored 5, to go up 6-1 after the fourth. Curwensville scored 4 more times in the sixth to ice the game. Hoover and Trevor Horton chipped in with 2 RBI’s each.
Mo Valley’s only run came in the top of the fourth, which at that time tied the game at 1-1. Curwensville had taken a 1-0 lead after two innings as Dellantonio unloaded a double to right center scoring Joe Bloom for the games first run.
Hoover picked up the win for Curwensville after coming on for starter Justin Johnston in the top of the fourth. Erik Martell set down the Black Knight’s in order in the seventh. Marc Godin started and took the loss for Mo Valley.
The Tide are back in action on Tuesday as they journey to Brockway and take on the Rovers.
