For Sale Again — Clearfield Borough Fire Halls

CLEARFIELD – It will likely be back to the drawing board for Clearfield Borough Council with regard to bids for two fire halls.

The council rejected all bids without opening them in February after reporters from GantDaily.com, The Courier-Express/Tri-County Sunday and wOK!w 102.9 FM challenged their compliance with Pennsylvania’s Open Meetings Act. The council voted to go to bid on the fire halls at Second Ward and Fourth Ward again, this time requiring that the minimum bid be at least the appraised value of each of the halls. Bids were due Thursday night, but Clearfield County Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III announced that no bids had been received. (For the back story on this, click here.)

Second Ward is appraised at $45,000, and Fourth Ward is appraised at $53,000.

At Thursday’s committee meetings, it was decided to recommend to full council that the issue be discussed at the regular meeting March 15.
