The Gant Daily athlete of the week for February 26 to March 3 is Curwensville freshman wrestler Derek Brothers.
Brothers won the Northwest Region AA 103 pound title at Sharon. Brothers beat the District X champ in the semis, then avenged his district final loss, by beating Garret Pisani of Ridgway, 5-2.
Other top performers for the past week:
Nick Sipes won his second regional title.
Sean Owen placed third to qualify for the PIAA states after losing his opening bout at the AAA Northwest Regionals.
Matt Kyler placed second at 141 pounds at the EIWA Championships to qualify for the NCAA championships as a freshman.
Clearfield High School\’s Jennifer Williams won the District VI – IX Regional diving championship.
The Clearfield boys 200 Medley relay team set the regional meet record. The team\’s members are Brandon Boyer, Shay Flanagan, Logan Shirey, and Mark Krchnak. Flanagan also won the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
The Clearfield boys also won the 400 freestyle relay. Team members were Boyer, Chris Bodle, John Bodle, and Flanagan.
The Clearfield girls also won the 200 Medley. Their members are Chelsey DuFour, Allison White, Shellbie King, and Carolyn Shurer. Shurer also won the 500 free.
