The Prom Closet is Gearing Up for Another Year

CLEARFIELD – Central Pennsylvania Community Action believes that every girl attending the prom should feel like a princess.

The Prom Closet is a program designed to assist girls with their prom dresses and accessories.

Purchasing a prom gown and accessories can be very expensive, and families already living paycheck to paycheck or on a limited income often can’t afford to dress their daughters in style.

That’s where The Prom Closet comes in.

The Prom Closet collects, cleans and distributes gowns to lend a helping hand for girls attending their prom.

The Prom Closet currently has more than 200 gowns to choose from, but more are being requested.

If you are interested in donating a gown to the program, simply drop your gown off at Central Pennsylvania Community Action, 207 E. Cherry St., Clearfield, or Chubby’s Cleaners on Third Street in Clearfield.

Chubby’s Dry Cleaning will offer 15 percent off your next dry cleaned item with the donation of a gown.

Accessories are limited in The Prom Closet. Area residents who have any rhinestone, costume jewelry or any other prom-appropriate accessories are encouraged to donate. Shoes and accessories with the gowns will also be accepted.

Financial donations are also being sought to help with the operational costs of this program.

The Prom Closet has been able to assist more than 115 girls from 12 local school districts in the first two years of operation.

Community partners of the Prom Closet include Chubby’s Cleaners of Clearfield, Simply Stylin’ of Hyde and Carolyn’s Flowers of Clearfield.

If you or your business would be interested in becoming a community partner, contact Tia at Central Pennsylvania Community Action at 765-1551. D

Donations of services and financial assistance are still being requested especially from area florists and restaurants.

Once the gowns are collected and cleaned, CPCA staff will sort and display the gowns at The Prom Closet located in The Dimeling Senior Residences, 4 N. Second St., Clearfield.

The Prom Closet will be filled with beautifully prepared gowns and accessories for each girl’s preference. The Prom Closet will by open April 1-7. All area girls planning to attend the high school prom in need of this service should contact Tia with CPCA by telephone at 765-1551 or 800-822-2610 or by e-mail at thepromcloset@verizon.net

Appointments for The Prom Closet will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
