Campus Corner: Shiner Reclaims Westminster Record, Ogden Places at PSAC Meet

GAMBIER, Ohio — Sophomore Rebecca Shiner of Clearfield reclaimed the school indoor 800-meter record with a third-place finish that helped the Westminster College women\’s track and field team win the Last Chance Meet at Kenyon College Friday.
 
The Titans racked up 137 points to beat out Thiel (129.5) for top honors in the six-team field.
 
Shiner lowered the record to 2:30.29, erasing the 2:30.36 that freshman Tiffani Miller of Youngstown, Ohio, set at the Case Western Reserve Spartan Invitational in Cleveland on Jan. 23.
 
Shiner entered the season as the Westminster record-holder for the 800 (2:34.77) and 1,000 (3:16.75). She broke her own mark in the 800 with a 2:32.44 in the Marietta (Ohio) College First Glimpse Invitational on Dec.9, but Miller took it from her with a 2:30.50 in the Doug Raymond Open at Youngstown, Ohio, on Jan. 13.
 
Miller broke Shiner\’s 1,000 record with a 3:16.08 in the Kent State Tune-up Invitational on Feb. 17.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Stacy Ogden of Clearfield placed in two individual events and one relay for Clarion University at the 32nd annual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in the Cumberland Valley High School pool last week.
 
The senior finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.47 on Saturday and eighth in the 200 backstroke in 2:14.46 on Sunday.
 
Ogden swam the anchor leg in 24.62 seconds for the 200 freestyle relay team that wound up second in 1:37.83 on Friday.
 
Clarion wound up a solid second in the 13-team meet with 562 points. West Chester easily won championship with 810 points. Indiana was third with 351.
