HARRISBURG – Motorists traveling throughout north central and northeastern PA are advised to be alert to the potential for snow squalls and black ice in their travels on Thursday, based on the forecast by the National Weather Service.
PennDOT and the Pennsylvania State Police encourage all motorists to pay full attention to their driving, especially on days like Thursday when weather conditions can change quickly and turn driving conditions sour in an instant.
The National Weather Service says conditions will be favorable for snow squalls, particularly in the midday hours today, while temperatures slowly fall during the afternoon.
State Police and PennDOT warn of the potential for encountering black ice in your travels as well.
Black ice is a condition in which the roadway appears to be just wet, when in fact it is covered with a thin sheet of ice. Conditions are right for the appearance of black ice.
Snow squalls may also appear. Squalls can making driving especially challenging, sometimes creating white-out conditions and making roads slick in an instant.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and drive defensively.
