County Approves West Nile Grant, Subcontract

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Commissioners voted this week to approve a grant agreement between the county and the state Department of Environmental Protection for the 2007 West Nile Suppression Project.

The county will receive $71,915 from DEP for the program.

Penn State’s Cooperative Extension will carry out the program for Clearfield County through a subcontract.

“Chuck Allen and the cooperative extension hae done a really good job in handling this,” said Commissioner Mike Lytle, noting that the cooperative extension has handled the mosquito suppression program for the county for a number of years.

“I think this has worked out really well for the county,” said Commissioner Chairman Rex Read, noting that the program resulted in only three or four confirmed cases of West Nile in the county last year.

Commissioner Mark McCracken said, “Chuck will come in and report to us if they find a live pool of mosquitoes that are carrying West Nile.”
