Centre County Community Foundation Awards Grant to Clearfield Hospital

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Hospital plans to expand services at its Philipsburg Family Medical Services site, thanks, in part, to funding from the Centre County Community Foundation.

The hospital recently received a $5,000 grant from the organization to help with costs of radiology equipment for the Philipsburg office. Imaging services at the site should be available later this year.

“Having this service in Philipsburg will be beneficial because residents won’t have to travel far for many types of X-rays. We’re grateful to the Centre County Community Foundation for recognizing the importance of this project,” stated Robert B. Murray III, president and chief executive officer of Clearfield Hospital.

In addition to the foundation grant, Clearfield Hospital received a state grant and is contributing its own funds to pay for the equipment.

The Centre County Community Foundation was created in 1981 as a public charity. It provides support for the arts, social and health concerns, education and the environment.

According to Philipsburg resident and foundation board member Dr. Robert E. Steward Jr., the grant came from the “Philipsburg Fund,” which was established by residents of Philipsburg in 2003 to support Philipsburg-area not-for-profit organizations.

It was the first fund established within the foundation for a specific geographic area; Philipsburg residents Walter Swoope, Dr. Steward and Dixie Steward spearheaded creation of the fund.

“The foundation offers great flexibility to donors and allows them to establish a fund for almost any charitable purpose, or to support any field of interest,” said Bob Potter, president of the Centre County Community Foundation.

He continued, “We are delighted that Philipsburg residents have taken the initiative to establish this geographic fund as a way to provide support for their own community. We are pleased to award a grant to Clearfield Hospital so it may provide a vital service to the region.”
