DuBois Area School District Receives a Number of Awards

DUBOIS – A number of awards were given to the DuBois Area School District on Thursday night.

The DuBois Area Middle and High School’s were awarded the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association’s District IX Sportsmanship Award for the high standards in sportsmanship the respective school’s athletic teams showed during the 2005-2006 season.

Over 700 student athletes represented the high ideals of sportsmanship that school year.

A banner and plaque were awarded to the district, as well as a monetary award that was used to purchase equipment for the training room.

Nine DuBois area schools were also awarded the Keystone Achievement Awards in recognition of their academic performance in exceeding annual yearly progress targets for two consecutive years through 2004 through 2006.

The schools awarded were:

DuBois Area Senior High School
C.G. Johnson Elementary School
Highland Elementary School
Juniata Elementary School
Luthersburg Elementary School
Oklahoma Elementary School
Penfield Elementary School
Sykesville Elementary School
Wasson Elementary School

According to Sharon Kirk, superintendent, some schools have have won this award three times in a row.
