Auto Accident in Centre County Results in Death of One Driver

HUSTON TOWNSHIP – An accident that occurred Tuesday night on state Route 220 resulted in the death of one of the drivers involved.

That driver was southbound on SR 22 and another vehicle driven by Alan Rishell of Julian was traveling north. The other driver entered the northbound lane and struck the left front end of Rishell’s vehicle with its front end. Rishell’s vehicle traveled off of the roadway and onto the east berm, then into a ditch, striking an embankment. Rishell was taken to Mt. Nittany Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

The other vehicle spun and traveled off of the roadway and onto the west berm. It finally came to rest partially blocking the southbound lane. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers. The identity of the driver will be released after next of kin have been notified.

Philipsburg-based state police were assisted by Alpha Ambulance, Port Matilda Ambulance, Port Matilda Fire Company, Medic 24 and PennDOT. The road was closed for three hours but has since reopened.
