PSU DuBois in Final Weeks of Season, Could Lead to USCAA Tourney

DUBOIS – The Penn State DuBois Basketball Team, now 11-2 in the PSUAC and 14-5 overall, is in the final weeks of a season that could produce a PSUAC Championship and even a USCAA — United States Collegiate Athletic Association — National Title.

The Lions are currently ranked in the USCAA Top Ten and hoping for a bid to the National Tournament to be held Feb. 28 to March 3 in South Portland, Maine. Team members are Pat Brown, Kyle Dynda, Kevin Genevro, Marcus Genevro, Neil Hanes, Dylan Howard, Brandon Krug, Jimmy Lowe, Owen Rogers, Gabe Rosenberg, Jonny Songer, and Kyle Vogt. Head coach is Dave Bennett, who is assisted by Tony Posteraro and Kurt Richards

“We’re extremely proud of our basketball team,” said Penn State DuBois Chancellor Anita McDonald. “The team has both a high scoring average and, more importantly, a high grade point average.” But success – and particularly the anticipated trip to Maine for the USCAA Tournament — can be expensive. “We estimate that the final cost of transportation, lodging, meals, and incidental expenses related to participation in the National Tournament will likely exceed $10,000 and may reach $15,000,” added McDonald. “That’s a challenge for a smaller, budget-driven campus.”

McDonald advises that those who want to “help support our drive for conference and national titles” can do so in three ways:

1) with a tax-deductible gift

2) by sharing creative fundraising ideas
3) through their presence and cheers at the team’s remaining games.

Penn State DuBois will host Penn State New Kensington Feb. 15, Penn State Mont Alto Feb. 17, and Penn State McKeesport in the home finale Feb. 24. The Feb. 17 contest will be followed by an all-you-care-to-eat wings buffet courtesy of Quaker Steak and Lube, and two Texas Hold’em sessions with prizes for the winners. All proceeds from this special event will benefit Penn State DuBois Athletics.
