DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors have given their OK for the township to take out a $1.75 million loan to pay back DuBois City.
The debt comes from unpaid sewer charges the city imposed on Sandy Township. The township, however, has been fighting the charges in court. An appeal is currently in the Commonwealth Court.
The township had been waiting for word from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority that the township’s actions in incurring the new debt would be allowed. On Jan. 31, that letter arrived.
The loan comes in two parts from National City Bank. The first is a 120-day interest only note with an 11 1/2 year term loan at 4.39 percent after that point.
“I would hope now that we are about to sign our papers on the loan, the court wouldn’t drag out the appeal,” said Supervisor Dave Sylvis.
