CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library are pleased to announce the 2007 youth poetry contest. The contest begins on Monday, February 12, 2007, for all area students’ grades 1st – 12th in the Clearfield Area School District, including St. Francis, Clearfield Missionary Alliance, and those that are home schooled. The deadline for submitting poems is Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 5:00 P.M.
Students wishing to enter are to write an original one-page poem on any subject that they wish. Poems may be either handwritten or computer generated, but must be on an 8 ½ x 11 inch paper. Participants also need to submit their name, age, address, phone number, grade and school on a separate piece of paper. Additionally, all poems must have a title.
The objective of the contest is to promote creative writing and an appreciation for the written word. The entries will be judged by a panel of three individuals and one winning poem per grade level will be selected. Each winner will be notified by mail and a reception honoring the winning poets will be held in the latter part of April, which is National Poetry Month.
