DUBOIS – A fire in DuBois on Thursday sent one man to Pittsburgh for treatment of burns.
According to a state police fire marshal, the fire at 1248 South Main Street was ruled accidental.
The fire started when James Laughman was in a detached garage removing a fuel pump from his truck. A kerosene heater that was burning in the garage ignited the gas fumes, which trailed back to the truck where Laughman was at.
Laughman received third degree burns to his hands and first and second degree burns to his face. He was flown to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh for medical treatment.
According to a Sandy Township Fire Department press release, firefighters were at the scene from nearly 9 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. on Friday.
A quick response and knockdown by fire personnel contained the fire to the garage. Damages are estimated at around $30,000.
