Accused Kidnappers Scheduled for Preliminary Hearings Wednesday

CLEARFIELD – Two men accused of abducting another man are set to have preliminary hearings on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.

Randall Bolton, 41 of Clearfield and Richard Rauch, 47 of Hyde, were arraigned on Jan. 23 on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and related charges. Both men are being held in Clearfield County Jail.

GantDaily reported last week that both men were arrested after allegedly kidnapping a 28-year-old Houtzdale man from his home at gunpoint Jan. 22 at about 8 p.m.

According to that report, the men kidnapped the other man because of a failed drug buy.

“I ripped [Bolton] off about four years ago for $190. I was to get him pills,” read the alleged victim’s statement to police.

The men were reported to have arrived at the alleged victim’s residence and led him out at gunpoint.

They drove the man to an area off of state Route 153 in Boggs Township. It was reported that they drug him out of the truck, kicked and punched him and that one of the men fired shots at him with the handgun. The man then ran away from his alleged abductors.

Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. said in a press conference last week that it was too early to say the case is primarily drug related.

Both Bolton and Rauch are scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Rudella at 9:30 a.m.
