WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Wind Chills and Blowing Snow on the Way to Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD – The National Weather Service is advising that some severe weather is headed into Clearfield County.

Forecasters say an arctic blast is on its way to Central Pennsylvania, bringing with it a snow and blowing snow advisory through 10 a.m. Friday and a wind chill advisory from 2 a.m. Friday until noon Friday.

Snow showers and squalls will continue overnight as an arctic cold front moves south of the region. Total accumulations will range from 3 to 6 inches by the time snow tapers off late Friday morning. The highest amounts will occur in the ridge tops.

In addition, northwest winds will frequently gust to over 25 mph, creating dangerous wind chills as well as considerable blowing and drifting snow. The wind chill will be around 15 below zero late Thursday and early Friday.

A snow and blowing snow advisory means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas. A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This could result in frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must go outside, be sure to dress in layers and wear a hat and gloves.
