Boggs Township to See New Water Lines

WEST DECATUR – Amid changes for the New Year, the Boggs Township Supervisors announced that major water line projects are getting under way in the municipality.

2007 brought with it a camera in the township’s meeting room along with a rule that all questions and comments for the board must be made from the podium.

Two speakers complied with the new policy, however one resident refused to speak from the podium at the end of the meeting, causing it to be adjourned before her comments were made.

During the meeting, though, Chairman Bill Dixon said that the Department of Environmental Protetion is in the design phase of a project that will connect the area of the Krise Development to Wallaceton. From there, the line will go to the former Wallaceton-Boggs Elementary School.

The school was closed last summer.

Eventually the line will make a final loop to be connected to the Moshannon Valley Correctional Institution.

The design for the water line should be completed by the end of April with bidding on the project coming in late fall.

“That’s good news for more water line extensions within our township,” Dickson said.

Work is also expected to begin in the next week to two weeks for a project that will build an approximately 13-mile long water line. This work will complete a loop from Bigler through Osceola Mills to Sandy Ridge.

Dickson said the plan is to have this line completed by November with a 100,000 water tank being placed on Mease Hill.

“Should there be a problem in either direction, they’ll still be able to service people in both directions through these loops they have planned.”

Both projects are being financed through the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Fund.
