The Pennsylvania State Police has developed a Strategic Action Plan to run through 2010.
The Strategic Action Plan sets goals and strategies to achieve the goals, including several in the area of traffic collisions.
Police are pushing to reduce crash-related injuries and fatalities by 7.5 percent as compared to the prior five-year average. Troopers are also striving to reduce driving under the influence-related crashes through DUI enforcement. Finally, the police are looking to improve public awareness regarding driver behavior, equipment standards and restraint use and that impact on avoiding or surviving crashes.
One strategy being used is identifying high crash and DUI crash areas through the use of PROphecy.
PROphecy is a computer program that tracks traffic crashes, traffic violations and criminal incidents as investigated by the state police. Through the use of that real-time data, troopers can identify trends and assign traffic enforcement.
