Man Sentenced for Delivery of Drugs and Other Charges

CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man involved in the drug bust in DuBois earlier in the year was sentenced on Monday.

Clearfield County Judge Paul E. Cherry sentenced Matthew J. Kematic, 26, to nine months to three years at a state correctional institution for the sale of Oxycodone. Kematic must also submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.

This was one of three drug cases in which Kematic sold drugs to confidential informants. Kematic also pleaded guilty to the unlawful delivery of of marijuana and Percocet. For the marijuana charge, Kematic was sentenced to two years probation to run consecutive to the above sentence. Kematic’s sentence for the Percocet case was similar, and he received two years consecutive probation.

The affidavits of probable cause state that the sales happened Dec. 1 and 15, 2005, and April 4, 2006.

Kematic was also sentenced for 45 counts of theft by unlawful taking from a number of businesses in the DuBois area, including Timberland Federal Credit Union, BiLo and multiple pizza parlors, including Frank’s Pizza, Napoli’s Pizza, and Pasquali’s Pizza,

“Apparently he eats a lot of pizza,” said Cherry during the sentencing.

Kematic was sentenced to a number of years of probation to run concurrent with the Oxycodone sentence. He received an additional two years of consecutive sentencing as well.

Originally Cherry was not going to accept Kematic’s plea agreement because the sentences for the drug charges did not comply with the proper guidelines. The original plea called for an eight month minimum sentence. Kematic accepted the nine month minimum the judge was willing to accept.
