New Voting Machines Demonstrated at Courthouse

CLEARFIELD – Because of federal guidelines, Clearfield County, like many other counties across the state and nation, will use some new form of voting equipment in the upcoming General Election.

Clearfield County opted the ES&S iVotronic Touchscreen Voting System. During the primary election, about 71 of these machines were used.

According to Jim Strickland, director of management information systems for Clearfield County, about 220 systems will be spread throughout the county.

Thursday night at the Clearfield County Courthouse Annex lobby was the last open demonstration for the public. According to Strickland a machine will still be set up for demonstrations in the courthouse until election time. If a person cannot make it to the courthouse, they can go to the county’s Web site and try a demonstration of the machine here.

About 12-15 people came in to try the machine between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., according to Strickland. He also added that the majority of folks to check the machine out were 50 years old or older.

“We have had some apprehension,” said Strickland. “But once they come in and try it, it takes away any doubts they may have.

“It has been well received by everyone,” said Strickland.
