DuBois City Police Arrest Man for Aggravated Assault

DUBOIS – According to a police report, DuBois City Police had their hands full after a three-vehicle accident on Sunday.

Police were called to the 500 block of South Main street for the accident. Sandy Township Police on scene learned a vehicle traveling north struck three parked vehicles, causing severe damage to them. An injured driver was taken by DuBois Regional Medical Center-West for treatment.

While investigating the accidents, police stopped a vehicle that almost struck a city fireman at the scene. The man, 23-year old Mark Byers of Brookville got out of his vehicle and apparently challenged police.

Police tried to calm him down, but Byers would not calm down. Police report he was obviously under the influence.

When officers attempted to arrest him, Byers headbutted one officer and threw him into a vehicle. The report reads that Byers, weighing in at 300 pounds “gave officers a handful,” and several firefighters helped take him into custody.

Byers was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering another person, and several vehicle code violations. Byers was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Patrick N. Ford and placed in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $10,000 straight bail.
